Paradise Day 3

Happy 10 year anniversary!
The morning of our actually anniversary we woke up and boarded a boat for a snorkeling excursion.  It picked us up on the beach in front of our resort and headed out to the Barrier Reef, which I learned is the 3rd largest reef in the world.

The water just keep turning different shades of turquoise it was spectacular.  We didn't have an under water camera so we didn't get any pictures of the amazing fish that we saw but we saw all shapes, color, and sizes of them.  It was the best snorkeling that I have ever done.

After snorkeling on the reef we took a short ride to another area that was only about 2-3 feet deep to snorkel for conch.  We each got to find one adult conch to take with us.  Conch take four years to become an adult from an egg.  After that we rode to Half Moon Bay which is a ribbon of sand that was form from a hurricane.

It was gorgeous!

When we got off the boat our first mate, Licky, showed us how to take the snails out of their shells.

Here is Ryan pulling his out.  Licky showed us how to tell the difference between a male and a female conch.  It is quite obvious (if you get my drift).

The are quite gross looking when they all come out.

Licky takes out a knife and starts cutting away all these parts and ends up with a nice white filet looking piece of meat.  He lets us all taste a small piece.  I tried it!  It wasn't bad tasting at all, kind of like a scallop.

Licky and me with my conch!

After that we explored the land a bit which is home to a bunch of iguanas.

They were just sitting under the trees hanging out, and they are much bigger than I expected.

While we were exploring Licky was busy making us some fresh ceviche with our conchs, tomatoes, onion, and bell peppers.  They served it with a bag of Doritos.  It sounds really weird but it tasted like fresh pico and was delicious.

Licky throw all the left over parts on the conch in the water and all the these massive stingrays and sharks came up to eat it all.  Some of the others were brave enough to snorkel with them.  We were not!  But it was amazing to watch them, some of the stingrays had a wing span of 3 to 4 feet!

You can see one of them in the background with a stingray, scary.

These are our conchs that we brought home to give the girls!
They still need a little cleaning up but they are beautiful.

It was a super fun way to send the first half of our anniversary.  The rest of the afternoon we laid on the beach and chilled.

For dinner we had reservations at the restaurant on the roof top.

It was a phenomenal day spent with my best friend and husband of 10 years.  I can't wait to see what the next 10 bring!  I love you!
